SCHOOL OF HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE

The Diploma in Health & Social Care course is designed to provide a comprehensive core learning and assessment for health and social care workers in a wide range of settings.

The Diploma in Health and Social Care programme is designed to enable you to develop a sound understanding of policy, theory and practice in health and social care. It provides you with an opportunity to engage with the challenges facing professionals, services users and policy makers.

The diploma offers core courses focusing on health, community care and roles in the health and care services, and a wide choice of optional courses to enable you to put together a study programme to suit your own particular needs and interests. You can study the diploma as an award in its own right or use it as a 'staging' award on your way to a degree.

Health and social care is a vast service sector undergoing rapid change, with new government initiatives giving it a higher profile than ever. Priorities on the healthcare agenda include being more responsive to patient needs, and preventing illness by promoting a healthy lifestyle. The focus in frontline health and social care is on giving service-users more independence, choice and control. These developments mean there’s greater demand for well-trained and multi-skilled people across a range of rewarding employment opportunities.

Providing help and care for those in need or who are vulnerable offers a unique sense of personal and career fulfillment.

This two years programme is aimed at full or part time staff and volunteers who may not have other qualifications.

This qualification is designed for people who work with individuals to support and assist them with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence.

They might be working in one of many services including residential, day services, hospital, housing, domiciliary or community support.

The Diploma is awarded by City & Guilds on the successful completion of the programme.
